Meeting of the Native Sounds of Mexico and Japan

TRIBE and Toshi Tsuchitori

Recorded in 1995

This recording was made live in Japan during a concert broadcast nationally by the educational television network NHK. The recording documents an exceptional encounter between clay drums from the Jōmon culture, played by Japanese percussionist Toshi Tsuchitori, and ancient Mexican musical instruments performed by TRIBU.

From this remarkable sonic and cultural convergence, the echo of the past becomes present once again: instruments that had remained silent and hidden for long periods regain their voice, recreating a profound dialogue between ancestral memories and distant territories.
