Ritual Concert. Chamber Music for Pre-Hispanic Mexican Musical Instruments - Recorded in 1994
The music performed on this album was conceived for a season at the auditorium of the Templo Mayor Museum, located in the Zócalo of Mexico City—the Huey Teocalli of Tenochtitlan. For its creation, the same musical instruments used in antiquity at this ceremonial center were employed, instruments to which TRIBU has dedicated itself to restoring their status as living entities, freeing them from their nature as inert or preserved objects in museum display cases.
The chronicles indicate that within this sacred precinct there existed a space called In Mixkóakalli, a place where music was closely linked to other artistic and ritual disciplines. In this sense, the present work can be understood as a 20th-century Mixkóakalli, a sonic space where memory, creation, and cultural continuity converge.
